Teaching Self-Portrait

Zen Benefiel

TED Program

University of Phoenix

As a teacher I will be concerned about the students’ well-being, both scholastically and in self-actualization. That is, to empower and enable them to grow both in academia and awareness, more self-aware of their inner drives and motivations so that they can function better in the changing environments they will experience in life.

I will challenge the students to use their reasoning, discovery, evaluative and problem solving skills. Determining areas for improvement and challenging each to grow in those specific areas. Current technology and various up-to-date teaching techniques will meet the needs of diverse learners.

Students will need to be fluent in the use of available technology. They will also need to understand the possible impact on future generations. As they begin to develop concepts and views of what technology can do, I will encourage the creation and actualization of optimistic future visions of harmony and cooperation of peoples.

I will work to empower each to explore their inner resources and compel them to reflect on the circumstances in their immediate environment, making positive choices and decisions. I view flow to be important in life and the best participative learning process. Managing flow is a must.

Education is a journey. As these young travelers evaluate their direction, they engage body, mind and heart. My desire is to prepare them to meet those challenges with discipline, tact, skill, and precision.
